The Head of Collection is responsible for the running of the workroom, reporting into the Creative Director for the demi-couture and RTW collections and the CEO for operational activities. The role focuses on the creation of samples and bespoke orders working with a wide variety of fabrics and finishes requiring expertise in recommending the best construction methods, consistency in fit standards and exquisite execution of production, (atelier and external). The role will manage an atelier team of around 10 with responsibility for executing the critical path and budget. An essential part of the role will be to ensure fit comments are noted and relayed accurately throughout the sampling process.


The successful Head of Collection will have strong technical expertise in Demi-Couture and Women’s Ready-To-Wear. Thorough knowledge of a wide range of luxury fabrics and finishes, garment construction, print and embellishment techniques is also essential along with a proven track record in successfully managing a workroom budget, workflow and team. The ability to lead and maintain a positive work culture is essential.



  • Manage a team of pattern cutters, seamstresses and interns ensuring a positive studio culture and high level of performance.
  • Manage the atelier budget to ensure budgeted costs are adhered to, and in-house capacity is clearly communicated as agreed with the CEO.
  • Sourcing and overseeing of outworkers, external production and garment processing such as pleating, embroidery, embellishment, etc.
  • Procurement and stock management of labels, garment components, trims and care labels in line with company policy and in adherence to trading standards.
  • Ensure samples are produced in line with the critical path, to the required quality.
  • Manage the pattern team with responsibility for all pattern related matters, including the workroom schedule.
  • Source and manage pattern cutters, seamstresses and interns.
  • Liaise with the CEO to agree and book freelance support at peak times to ensure critical path deadlines are achieved.
  • Oversee pattern amendments and grading.
  • Manage all atelier suppliers and technical procurement.


  • Work closely with the Creative Director to ensure the technical aspect of the garment is taken into consideration when fabrics are allocated and advise on the best construction methods for each style.
  • Attend all Development and Production fittings, ensuring all data is recorded thoroughly and that garment construction in consistent and meticulous.
  • Oversee all garment and product costings.
  • Be a trusted source of technical input in all fittings.
  • Coordinate the creation of couture/demi-couture garments, ensuring the creative vision is realised.
  • Organise model bookings and castings.
  • Maintain and update fit standards throughout season.
  • Meet, liaise and source specialist manufacturers, fabric, trim and component suppliers.
  • Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of garment construction, fabric, trims, testing, compliance standards, production and manufacturing techniques for demi-couture.


  • Create production schedule for the atelier and each external Manufacturer and work to a critical path.
  • Responsible for all aspect of production from organizing constituent components to production quality control through to delivery and invoicing with the assistance of the workroom assistant.
  • Stock control with general workroom assistant.
  • Negotiating prices, lead times and minimums with suppliers and manufacturers.
  • Support external factories with any make or construction queries and ensure they conform to company standards.
  • Work closely with rest of team to ensure production is cost effective, good quality and deliveries are on time.
  • Responsible for communicating and resolving production related issues promptly.


  • Head of Atelier or Collection / Studio Manager with a minimum 8 years’ experience specialising in demi-couture and Women’s RTW.
  • A technical qualification supported by extensive technical expertise in luxury / couture.
  • Experience working with a wide variety of luxury fabrics, embroideries and embellishments.
  • A highly organised team player.
  • Ability to motivate and lead an Atelier team encouraging a positive culture of cooperation and support.
  • Excellent planning, organization and negotiating skills.
  • Communicate effectively cross functionally within the business.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, in particular Excel.
