The Finance Controller is responsible for ensuring the smooth running of the Finance function managing a freelance book keeper for this growing luxury brand with global wholesale and online distribution. The role involves reconciliation of ledgers, month and year end, stock and bank reconciliation, budget and forecasting, VAT and tax compliance, credit control, payroll and cashflow management. The brand sells through international stockists and stores including: Net-A-Porter, Matches, Colette & Selfridges and its own website shop.


The successful candidate will have experience working for a global fashion wholesale and e-commerce brand with full P&L responsibility and experience implementing Xero switching from SageLine50 in March 2018.


  • Manage the finance function supporting the operational team in financial aspects of their roles to ensure trading is optimized through regular analysis of KPIs and results.
  • Month end and board reporting including in depth knowledge of chart of accounts, accuracy of book entries, ledger review and completing the monthly board pack by the deadline.
  • Variance Analysis: Monthly/Quarterly (TBC by MD) meetings with relevant team members to discuss departmental P&L’s versus budget. Ensure that there is a focus on cost saving and controls around spending (P&L, CAPEX & Stock).
  • Manage budgets & forecasting (to include CF & BS), with help from MD on 3 year plan & CF. 
  • Merchandising support: Set stock buy forecast with MD (based on forecast Net sales with assumptions around MD and TS), setting exchange rates and review regularly with merchandising to ensure margin and buy are in line with budget.
  • Manage bank payments, cash management, sales reconciliations, credit control, bank reconciliations (including investigation of discrepancies), VAT, stock reconciliations, quarterly balance sheet reconciliations and Year End audit controls.
  • Preparation/review of weekly pay run & monthly payroll.
  • Credit control; ensure wholesale appropriately manage the deposit & pro-forma payments schedule, credit checks and chasing of debt.
  • Track actual cash flow movements against budgeted cash flow movements and highlight any issues to MD on a timely basis.
  • Responsible for preparation and review of all government submissions, including accuracy of VAT return.
  • Ensure stock management is accurate and reconciled and stock count procedures are strengthened. Monthly stock journal to be posted based on closing stock.
  • Other ad hoc reconciliations and analysis as required, in particular to support the needs of MD and other business functions.
  • Attend meetings with The Board of Directors.
  • Liaise with auditors on year end accounts to ensure all statutory requirements are met.


  • Finance Controller with P&L and fashion industry experience to understand the seasonal peaks.
  • Exceptional financial planning, organisational and management skills.
  • Hands-on approach and ability to multi-task and anticipate deadlines.
  • Driven to continually improve processes and procedures.
  • Experience implementing Xero, migrating from Sage Line 50.
  • Proficiency in Word, Excel and Zedonk an advantage.
  • Fashion wholesale accounting experience to include e-commerce.
