The Product Developer for Men’s Smart Casualwear is responsible for coordinating the pre-production process working from initial design sketch to production handover managing the sampling process and critical path and liaising cross functionally with Design, Merchandising and Production and externally with vendors in Europe and the Far East. The successful candidate will have a minimum 5 years’ experience specialising in men’s multi-product casualwear for a premium or contemporary brand. This role is a 12-month maternity contract ideal if you are looking for a new challenge, are in between roles or freelancing and would like a stint in-house.


  • Manage the successful commercial delivery of men’s smart casualwear.            
  • Full responsibility and ownership for meeting price and delivery objectives for the brand in line with business criteria.
  • Work with the Design team, developing products for the Menswear categories, (excluding tailoring).
  • Develop the range from initial concept through to line finalisation supporting the Design vision and costs ensure quality and margin expectations are achieved.
  • Work closely with the Tailoring Product Developer to ensure the range is aligned and developed as a coherent and consistent collection.
  • Work cross-functionally with menswear Buying, Merchandising, Production and Fabric teams to ensure transparency and product clarity to enable each department to fulfil their team goal.
  • To support Design in research and developments, ensuring key dates are met and samples meet Design expectations.
  • Support Design on research and design development.
  • Support on spec pack creation, where necessary.
  • Manage the development critical path to ensure fabrics ordered on time and spec pack deadlines are met.
  • Co-ordinate fabric sampling, organise fabric hangers and pass over to fabric team for ordering sampling metres.
  • Update sampling tracker when sample lengths are sent to suppliers.
  • Communicate styles to suppliers and coordinate styles by sending spec packs/fabric/trims.
  • Chase proto samples ahead of seasonal buy meetings and ensure timely delivery in line with critical path.
  • Coordinate handover meetings alongside Production and Design.
  • Work with design, buying and production teams to ensure option framework is complete with no gaps.
  • Communicate any issues on sample lead-times and quality to Production in order to continuously push suppliers to maximise full potential of the collection.


  • Product Developer with a minimum 5 years’ experience in premium or contemporary Menswear.
  • Expertise in men’s multi-product smart casualwear.
  • Sound knowledge of product development processes and critical path management.
  • Experience leading fit meetings and working closely with Designers.
  • Excellent creative intuition with a strong eye for detailing, cut and quality.
  • Excellent skills in negotiating prices and margins.
  • A self-motivated team player able to communicate effectively with colleagues of all levels and external vendors.
  • Strong organisational skills.
  • Ability to work well in a demanding and fast paced environment.
  • Proficient in Outlook, Word and Excel.
