Overview

The Freelance Product Developer will be responsible for coordinating the product development process working from initial design sketch to production handover managing the sampling process and critical path working functionally with Design, Merchandising and Production and externally with suppliers and vendors in Europe and the Far East. The successful candidate will have at a minimum 5 years’ experience in premium or contemporary multi-product menswear.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure that samples are delivered in a timely manner for the seasonal buying meetings, working closely with Design, Merchandising and Production.
  • Support design on research and design development for the assigned product categories ensuring key dates are met and sample meet design expectations.
  • Support the creation of spec packs where required.
  • Coordination and approval of sampling fabric, trims, lab dips with Design and Fabric Teams.
  • Work with menswear Buying, Merchandising, Production and Fabric teams to ensure transparency and product clarity to enable each department to fulfil their team goal.
  • Manage the development critical path to ensure fabrics are ordered on time and deadlines are met.
  • Co-ordinate fabric sampling, organise fabric hangers and pass over to the fabric team for ordering sampling metres.
  • Update the sampling tracker when sample lengths are sent to suppliers.
  • Communicate styles to suppliers sending spec packs including fabric and trim information.
  • Chase proto samples ahead of seasonal buy meetings and ensure timely delivery in line with critical path.
  • Co-ordinate handover meetings alongside Production and Design.
  • Work with design, buying and production teams to ensure option framework is complete with no gaps.
  • Communicate issues on sample lead-times and quality to Production in order to continuously push suppliers to maximise full potential of the collection.
  • Coordinate fit days ensuring a speedy turnaround of samples. Attend fit meetings with the Design and Technical teams, monitoring any changes that may impact costings.
  • Work with Design to select press sample requirements and liaise with Production to ensure that deliveries can be met and raw materials are available. Update critical path with received/sent sample dates.
  • Maintain strong supplier relationships.

Qualifications

  • Product Developer with a minimum of 5 years’ experience working in premium or contemporary multi-product Menswear.
  • Sound knowledge of product development processes and critical path management.
  • Experience leading fit meetings and working closely with Designers.
  • Excellent creative intuition with a strong eye for detailing, cut and quality.
  • Excellent skills in negotiating prices and margins.
  • A self-motivated team player able to communicate effectively with colleagues of all levels and external vendors.
  • Strong organisational skills.
  • Ability to work well in a demanding and fast paced environment.
  • Proficient in Outlook, Word and Excel.
