  • Overview

    The Freelance Product Manager will be working closely with the design team on collection development managing product evolution from sketch to production in line with the critical path, delivering the correct range and quality working with sustainable and ethical suppliers on a unisex RTW collection. The successful candidate will have expertise working in contemporary or luxury fashion menswear and womenswear including denim, cottons and knitwear, technical and engineered fabrics, architectural shapes and sharp lines. Experience working with ethical and sustainable suppliers and factories is preferable. Key attributes will include strong garment construction knowledge, meticulous attention to quality and fit and excellent organisation and time management skills.

    Responsibilities

    • Manage the development and sampling processes to ensure the product is delivered on time and in line with margin objectives.
    • Manage the critical path from sketch through to SMS, production launch and delivery.
    • Ensure the range plan is delivered on time.
    • Working with new and existing sustainable and ethical suppliers, sourcing where required ensuring they conform to expected and agreed standards in terms of price, quality, delivery and expertise.
    • Manage costings and margins and cross cost with different factories where appropriate to achieve the best quality and price.
    • Ensure factory allocation is realistic and reflects a commercial mix of product offering the best delivery and costs with emphasis on sourcing ethical and/or sustainable denim and knitwear partners.
    • Responsible for the sourcing, purchase and delivery of raw materials for production.
    • Liaise with design on ethical and sustainable sampling fabrics ensuring they are appropriate for production.
    • Negotiate terms with suppliers to ensure prices are commercial and sustainable.
    • Ensure sampling and production delays are kept to a minimum and mitigate against any delays.
    • Manage the sampling process with the factories ensuring samples are delivered on time and to the required standard.
    • Managing the product specification sheets from creation to production, ensuring all parties fill in their relevant areas and that all data is up-to-date and correct, and tracking any changes.
    • Liaise with the design team to ensure technical packs are correct before sending to factories.
    • Liaise with freelance pattern cutters to ensure patterns meet critical path deadlines.
    • Ensure the studio is able to manage the different priorities across sampling and production.
    • Report on delivery, quality, cost and other issues both for sampling and production.
    • Adhere to the sampling budget, ensuring sample expenditure is on track and at target cost.

    Qualifications

    • Product Manager with at least 4 years’ experience in contemporary or luxury fashion ideally both menswear and womenswear.
    • Expertise in working with denim, cottons and knitwear, technical and engineered fabrics, architectural shapes and sharp lines.
    • Experience working with and sourcing ethical and/or sustainable suppliers and factories.
    • Strong garment construction and technical knowledge.
    • Fluent and polished written and spoken English.
    • Computer proficiency in Adobe Illustrator & Photoshop, Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook.
    • Excellent communication skills and meticulous attention to detail.
    • Highly organized with excellent time management skills.
