  • Overview

    The role of Freelance Senior Garment Technologist will partner with the creative team and product manager working from initial sample to gold seal across the Men’s and Women’s RTW collections to achieve the highest standard of fit, construction and technical specification using sustainable and ethical raw materials. This role will suit a confident and experienced Senior Garment Technologist with a solid background in Men’s and Women’s RTW and experience working with clean architectural shapes, clean lines, sometimes intricate styles and a full spectrum multi-product casual to daywear collection with ongoing availability 3-4 days a week.

    Responsibilities

    • Supporting the Design team and Product Manager in developing initial technical specification packs to enable suppliers to proceed with proto sampling.
    • Manage and co-ordinate fit meetings through to gold seal. Prepare development samples for fit meetings; this will include measuring, inspecting samples and making preparatory notes for discussion and updating the critical path throughout the fit and development process.
    • Use technical expertise to help improve and/or ensure margins are maintained.
    • Working closely with fully factored factories in the UK and Europe at all stages of development ensuring accurate execution of construction methods in line with patterns and specifications.
    • Responsible for sending accurate and timely technical comments, liaising with suppliers on daily basis, ensure technical information is understood and the required technical standards are maintained.
    • Liaising with the Product Manager and Creative team on any quality issues, being proactive in resolving and implementing solutions to any problems.
    • Raise and submit accurate graded specification sheets for production.

    Fabrics and Trims:

    • Risk assess fabric and trims across all categories before fitting start to ensure suitability for end use, highlight any risks and proposing solutions.
    • Organise and document wearer trials as needed and feedback results.
    • Review supplier test reports for bulk and sampling ensuring all raw materials are fit for purpose and achieve the highest standard of performance.
    • Submit care label instructions and approve the care label layouts for all garments.
    • Liaise with suppliers and factories to resolve any raw material issues.
    • Ensure all legal requirements around textiles and care labelling are adhered to.

    Factories and Suppliers:

     

    • Inform suppliers of quality issues and ensure appropriate action is taken to minimize risk of returns.
    • Review suppliers each season and feedback to the team on their technical capabilities and their understanding and interpreting of comments.
    • Travel as required to suppliers and factories to resolve quality issues and/or approve samples prior to production.

    General:

    • Contribute to weekly Product meetings, discussing any issues.

    Qualifications

    • Freelance Senior Garment Technologist specialising in RTW encompassing multi-product womenswear and menswear.
    • Ability to sign off product to Gold Seal Standard.
    • Confident to fit garments and send comments for amendments without a physical pattern.
    • Basic pattern cutting knowledge an advantage.
    • Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with colleagues and external partners.
    • Proactive and passionate demonstrating expertise across all product categories with emphasis on fit, finish and quality reflective of a contemporary collection.
    • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
    • Strong organisational skills.
    • Experience analysing problems and offering solutions.
    • Proficient in Microsoft office.
