  • Overview

    The Fabric Buyer / Developer is a hands-on creative role working closely with the womenswear design team in the sourcing, development and buying of sampling and bulk fabric for Womenswear in line with the development cycle each season. The ideal candidate will have a minimum 4 years’ high street fashion experience (mid-market to premium) specialising in fabric sourcing and development for womenswear including negotiation of prices, lead times and minimums working with global fabric mills and factories.

    Responsibilities

    • Sourcing, development and purchasing of sampling and bulk fabrics for soft separates, occasionwear, outerwear, casualwear, resort and tailoring.
    • Maintain, monitor and manage the Seasonal Master Cloth List referenced by all departments.
    • Ensure that all fabric is loaded correctly with Mill References and Composition.
    • Negotiate bulk fabric prices with the Sourcing Manager once bulk orders have been placed.
    • Co-ordinate sourcing of fabric with factories on fully factored product.
    • Sign-off of fabric resourcing for production with the Sourcing and Design teams.
    • Submit, chase and sign off lab dips for Production.
    • Identify special finishes that maybe required on bulk production fabric.
    • Approve bulk submissions, including resourced items.
    • Ensure that minimum and lead time information is available at pre-buy stage in the season.
    • Co-ordinate fabric for press samples with the Sourcing team.
    • Ensure that fabric test reports are compatible with the product developed for production.
    • Calculate all fabric required to fulfil bulk order requirements.
    • Place all fabric orders with suppliers.
    • Record and update all bulk fabric orders purchased for production.
    • Create and maintain fabric purchase orders on Pennine system.
    • Chase packing lists, invoices and arrange and negotiate shipping to factories.
    • Book in PO’s when fabrics are delivered to manufacturers.
    • Maintain the fabric critical path.
    • Co-ordinate fabric shipments with Production Co-ordinators and factories.
    • Maintain and update company fabric stock files and update.
    • Ensure that composition is correct and liaise with technical regarding care label Information.
    • Co-ordinate Excess Raw Material Audit at the end of each season to monitor residue stock.
    • Storage management where necessary.
    • Present and keep up to date stock boards for design and merchandising to utilise.

    Qualifications

    • Fabric Buyer / Developer with a minimum of 4 years’ experience in a similar role.
    • Proven track record in fabric sourcing and development working with premium fabrics suitable for soft separates, tailoring, outerwear, resort, casualwear and occasionwear.
    • Excellent communication skills.
    • Strong organisational skills.
    • Ability to work well in a demanding, fast moving environment.
    • PC literate including Outlook, Word and Excel.
    • Self-motivated.
    • Team player able to communicate effectively with internal/external parties.
